Jack Purcell Recreation Association, an incorporated, non-profit organization, offers programs at the community centre in partnership with Jack Purcell Communities Centre. JPRA provides recreational activities and leisure activities for children, youth and adults in Centretown through the Community Centre.


The Jack Purcell Community Centre is owned and operated by the City of Ottawa. The Centre has a pool and a fully accessible weight room. It also offers five meeting rooms and access to the Elgin Street Public School gym. The Centre also manages Jack Purcell’s and St. Luke’s Parks, as well as the tennis courts. The City of Ottawa offers swimming lessons, senior activities and programs for people who have special needs.

Our Board of Directors

The Jack Purcell Recreation Association is managed by a volunteer board of directors. They are elected in May at the Annual General Meeting. Volunteers from the board make up the Executive, which also includes Treasurer and Vice-President. The chairmen of the Programming and Marketing Committees are elected by the board.

The Jack Purcell community centre is located in the heart of Ottawa. The 18-metre pool has both regular and specialized aquatic programs. The facility also has access to a nearby school gym and a fully accessible weight zone. There are five meeting rooms of various sizes.

Jack Purcell has many programs that are available for seniors and those with disabilities. Through a partnership with Jack Purcell Recreation Association, Centretown has access to both adult and children’s programs. These programs include after-school programs, camps for children and adult fitness programs, as well support sports programs.

You can also use the following facilities seasonally:

  • Community Garden
  • The neighbourhood’s outdoor skate rink. It is located just off Elgin Street, behind the community centre. Residents of Centretown will love this outdoor activity as a winter activity. You will find a changing area and lighting outside. Outdoor skating season begins in December, and ends in February, weather permitting.

The Jack Purcell community centre is located in the heart of Ottawa. The 18-meter warm water pool offers regular aquatic programming and specialized programs for persons with disabilities. The facility also has access to a nearby school gym and a fully accessible weight zone. There are five meeting rooms of various sizes.

Jack Purcell Pool is special because it has a water temperature of 92@F (or 33@C). Accessible for people with mobility impairments. An electric transfer lift is available, as well as graduated stairs with arm support. A full-length metal handrail runs along the length of the pool. Two universal change rooms are available, one for men and the other for women.
